Friday in July in South Florida

And what is a girl to do? It’s rainy, humid and I’ve got root grow out about two inches. My eyebrows have grown together like one long unibrow across my wrinkled forehead and my toes haven’t seen polish since the last conference when I had to dress in girl clothes.
Why???
Because in between edits and work and disaster, this chiquita hasn’t had time to hit the groomer. Today will be that day!
I have the entire day off. I could clean, but the house will just get dirty again with five (yes, you read that right) boys in the house. I deserve a day of pampering. Hair, nails, brows – I can hardly wait. And while I’m sitting in the chair o’ beautification, what will I be doing? READING FOR PLEASURE. I’m practically giddy.
Have you noticed that when we are in deadline mode nothing else matters or gets done? And then when the book is finished and sent off into cyberspace it takes a day or two before your mind realizes it’s actually okay to avoid the computer? I woke up and stretched and waited for the panic of “ohgodthebooksnotdone”, and felt a full body sigh when all of me remembered that yeah baby, at least for today, the work is done.
I think that for me at that stage in the writing process I have to be so immersed in the book that it flows. I can’t think about sitcoms or movies or changing out of my pjs – I need two days of nothing but the book – the story – to tie up loose endings or threads. My family has learned to toss in a cheeseburger Happy Meal and to keep the Good n Plentys coming – and slowly back out of the room, lol. Hmm. Cheeseburgers. I might go for a walk today too Make it all about getting in good fighting shape for the next book.
what are you going to do today???

Since I’ve already finished my writing quota for the day, I am working on blogs and a series character grid. This afternoon I’ll take a break to go donate books at the Helen B. Hoffman library book sale. Tonight is reserved for more episodes of Alias. Happy grooming, Traci! I’m getting that stuff done before RWA National.

nancy, I wish I could be so disciplined! And great idea, donating books…I have so many and I just hate to drop them off at good will. Now I’m off…can’t wait to see you in a few weeks!

I’m doing research for the new WIP (Victorian horse racing), having lunch with parents, running to paint store so we can FINALLY undo the tragic mistake of listening to our daughter years ago when she wanted her room to be purple, hopefully fit in a little exercise, balance my checkbook, get back to researching…is it any wonder that writers are always pressed for time and frantic when the deadline comes around????? Help!!!!! Manicures? Sheesh – enjoy it while you can, Traci!

I’m doing as little as possible today. I finished some revisions and sent them home to my editor yesterday. If I have any luck at all, I’ll be curled upon the sofa reading this afternoon. Tomorrow, I’ll begin reading my critique partners’ chapters for our next meeting. And I totally get the dark roots. Just had mine covered up last week.

Well it’s Friday, so I am doing the Author Roast and Toast. Today we are in a haunted house, with vampires and werewolves, (hot ones, we’ve plumped up our lips with special lipstick and we are looking to be kissed. Heck, a few kisses can’t hurt.
Enjoy your day Traci and I know my roots are merging with my dyed hairs. Better do something quick!! I found this great stuff at the dermatologist for under eye darkness. Twice a day, and it’s supposed to help. So I don’t look like the walking dead! Ha! I’ll let you know if it works.
Love you Traci, have a great day!

LOLOL – I love that we’re all willing to trade root stories! So, my hairdresser says to my desire to dye my hair as white as the white stuff on my hairline “No, Traci, you just can’t pull it off with that skin tone.” Guess I’ll be coloring forever, lol. Mary, I’m coming to visit you at Authors roast and toast!

Vonnie and Pearl – ladies, strangers, lol, how have you been??? Vonnie, I ended up getting highlights too and this magic serum that makes my hair behave, haha. At least when the hair dresser did it. Miss you Pearl! Sue, did you get to read yesterday? I felt so guilty getting my hair done that I came home and cleaned my room/office corner. Took down the finished book plot board and put up the next project’s board. Didn’t get done until midnight, and I’m still not actually ‘done’. How can one small corner of a room hold so much important paper scraps??? Important being relative, of course, lol
